At HTC's Mobile World Congress press event on Sunday evening in Barcelona, it was a strickly look-but-don't-touch affair for the HTC One V. Disappointing, to say the least. Today at the Google booth we got a chance to muck one up with our grubby fingers, and let us just say this about that:

The HTC Legend is reborn.

The iconic form factor that many of us fell in love with two years ago at this very conference has returned. The chin, obviously, is what makes this phone stand out. But It's been updated for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and now sports just three capacitive buttons below the 3.7-inch Super LCD display. It's got the same unibody design as the original Legened. It's got a 1GHz Qualcomm 8255 processor and 512MB RAM. (We'd love to tell you how fast it is, but the software's not yet finished and we've yet to see a working model.)

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) ? When Adam Sandler's bad, he's really bad, according to voters for the Razzies, an Academy Awards spoof that singles out the worst movies of the year.

Sandler received a record 11 nominations Saturday for the Razzies as star, producer or writer on three 2011 movies ? "Jack and Jill," ''Just Go with It" and "Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star."

That more than doubled the previous record of five Razzie nominations held by Eddie Murphy for 2007's "Norbit."

Sandler's nominations include worst actor for both "Jack and Jill" and "Just Go with It" ? and worst actress for "Jack and Jill," in which he plays a family man and his own twin sister.

Sandler also had two nominations as worst screen couple opposite Jennifer Aniston or Brooklyn Decker in "Just Go with It" and opposite Katie Holmes, Al Pacino or himself in "Jack and Jill."

As a producer, Sandler was credited with worst-picture and worst prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel nominations for both "Bucky Larson" and "Jack and Jill." He also shared in worst-screenplay nominations as a writer on both movies, and a worst-ensemble nomination for "Jack and Jill."

"It's almost karmic for someone to have made that much razz-able stuff in one year," said Razzies founder John Wilson. "He has angered someone really powerful, I would say."

Along with "Bucky Larson" and "Jack and Jill," worst-picture contenders are "New Year's Eve," ''Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn ? Part 1."

"Jack and Jill" led with 12 nominations, with "Transformers" second with nine and "Breaking Dawn" right behind with eight.

Razzie nominations were released on the eve of the Oscars. Winners will be announced on April Fool's Day.

For worst actor, Sandler is up against "Bucky Larson" star Nick Swardson, along with Russell Brand for "Arthur"; Nicolas Cage for "Drive Angry," ''Season of the Witch" and "Trespass"; and Taylor Lautner for "Abduction" and "Breaking Dawn."

Swardson also was nominated for worst supporting actor for "Jack and Jill" and "Just Go with It."

For worst actress, Sandler is joined by another cross-dressing actor, Martin Lawrence in "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son." Also nominated were Sarah Palin for her documentary "The Undefeated"; Sarah Jessica Parker for "I Don't Know How She Does It" and "New Year's Eve"; and Kristen Stewart for "Breaking Dawn."

Several Oscar winners made the Razzies list, among them Cage (a best-actor winner for "Leaving Las Vegas") and Pacino (a best-actor winner for "Scent of a Woman"), who was nominated for worst supporting actor for "Jack and Jill."

Bill Condon, an Oscar winner for his "Gods and Monsters" screenplay, was among the worst-director nominees at the Razzies for "Breaking Dawn."

The group traditionally has announced its nominees the day before the Oscar nominations and its winners the night before the Oscars. But Wilson and the roughly 600 voting members for the Razzies decided to experiment with an April 1 date this time, figuring April Fool's Day was an ideal time for their mock ceremony.

"I have always wondered if we stepped slightly away from lockstep with the Oscars, what would happen," Wilson said. "We just kept hoping the Oscars would do their ceremony on April 2, but they just never did."

ScienceDaily (Feb. 24, 2012) ? Although it's widely accepted that inflammation is a critical underlying factor in a range of diseases, including the progression of cancer, little is known about its role when normal cells become tumor cells. Now, scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute have shed new light on exactly how the activation of a pair of inflammatory signaling pathways leads to the transformation of normal breast cells to cancer cells.

The study, led by Jun-Li Luo, an assistant professor at Scripps Florida, was published online before print by the journal Molecular Cell on February 23, 2012. The scientists' discovery points to the activation of a self-sustaining signaling circuit that inhibits a specific RNA, a well-known tumor suppressor that helps limit the spread of cancer (metastasis). Therapies that disable this circuit and halt this miRNA repression could have the potential to treat cancer.

The Spark that Ignites Trouble

In the new study, scientists identified the specific pathways that transform breast epithelial cells into active cancer cells. The researchers found immune/inflammatory cells ignite the transient activation of MEK/ERK and IKK/NF-kB pathways; the MEK/ERK pathway then directs a consistent activation of a signaling circuit in transformed cells. This consistent signaling circuit maintains the malignant state of the tumor cells. Luo compares this process to starting a car -- a car battery starts the engine much like the transient signal activation turns on the consistent signal circuit. Once the engine is started, it no longer needs the battery.

The scientists go on to show that the initial activation of these pathways also activates IL6, a cytokine involved in a number of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including cancer. IL6 acts as a tumor initiator, sparking the self-sustaining circuit in normal breast cells necessary for the initiation and maintenance of their transformed malignant state.

In establishing that self-sustaining signal circuit, IL6 represses the action of microRNA-200c, which is responsible for holding down inflammation and cell transformation. Since enhanced microRNA-200c expression impairs the growth of existing cancer cells and increases their sensitivity to anti-tumor drugs, compounds that disable microRNA-200c repression have the potential to act as a broad-spectrum therapeutic.

Interestingly, the new findings dovetail with the "multiple-hits theory" of tumor formation, which posits that once normal cells in the human body accumulate enough pre-cancerous mutations, they are at high-risk for transformation into tumor cells. While the newly described initial pathway activation is momentary and not enough to cause any lasting changes in cell behavior, it may be just enough to tip the cell's transformation to cancer, especially if it comes on top of an accumulation of other cellular changes.

Scientists recently discovered four new species of chameleons in Madagascar. One of them ? Brookesia micra ??is the smallest chameleon in the world. This species may have evolved through a phenomenon known as island dwarfism.

A group of scientists have done just that. They found four new species of chameleon in Northern Madagascar including the world's smallest, Brookesia micra. Adults reach a size of just over an inch long, making it one of the world's smallest vertebrates.

The miniscule frog, Paedophryne amanuensis,?broke the record held by a slightly larger-sized swamp-dwelling fish from Indonesia.

There is some controversy surrounding this title, as there exists an anglerfish native to the?Philippines?that can be as small as a quarter of an inch. But this fish is a parasite, spending its adult life attached to the female of its species. ?

How did this chameleon get so small? One explanation?is a theory known as island dwarfism. This size adaptation can occur for a variety of reasons on islands such as Madagascar. Smaller animals need to consume fewer resources to survive and reproduce, which is advantageous when food is scarce. Often dwarfed creatures are specialized and more efficient at processing nutrients. Small animals can also better utilize little shelters, to help them avoid predators and harsh environmental conditions.

Other island animals tend toward gigantism. Being big can mean fewer predators or less competition for resources. Mammals, for example, grew in size following the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Rates of change in mammals' sizes were described in a January article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Each species'?physiology limits?the extent to which it can grow or shrink. This chameleon may be the smallest possible vertebrate with complex eyes. But maybe not. The search for the smallest will undoubtedly continue, as the limit of miniaturization is as yet undefined.

Christopher J. Raxworthy, a herpetologist at the American Museum of Natural History, told The New York Times of a recent trip to Madagascar in search of chameleons, "And that?s one of the best things about being a scientist ? there is always the thrill of your next discovery."

The chameleon study was published on February 14 in the online journal PLoS ONE.

Layout a Day is like therapy. Scrapbook therapy. Lain Ehmann is my therapist (she doesn't even know it) and the LOAD Flickr gallery is like group therapy, always full of support.

This is my fifth round of LOAD and I've never cried so much. Actually, I've shed more tears during my February scrapbooking than all my years of scrapbooking combined. Who says that scrapbooking is not therapeutic? I know it's good for the soul.

During a recent scrapbook therapy session, I ~~cried~~ balled my eyes out as I wrote a letter to my deceased grandparents:

At the times of their passings, I was fine. I mourned the loss of both of them as they were at the end of their lives. However, I never mourned the loss of how I remember them when I was a child.

That one is celebrating the memory of my Aunt Linda who passed in 2009 and this next layout is about the place I spent plenty of summers hanging out with family during our annual reunions.

Supplies: cardstock (My Mind's Eye, DCWV), American Crafts fabric paper, Google Map, My Mind's Eye rub-ons.

The last reunion I went to took place ten years ago. Since then, family moved out-of-state and I had to say goodbye to Steubenville all over again.

And the peak of the crying happened after I finished those layouts. Still in a bad mood and trying to figure out why, I sat alone in my room and glanced over toward a container of old photos. I moved closer, sat cross-legged on the floor and opened it up. There were photos I had looked at over and over again, but one stood out.

Supplies: DCWV cardstock, Making Memories & Cosmo Cricket stickers, Colorbox chipboard, bubble wrap (under the journaling to add dimension). Note: I took a flame to the journaling paper and burned the edges.

The photo was nothing special (top of page), just another one of me coloring Easter eggs (I have dozens of these), but there I was, standing in my old house...before the fire.

And here I go again...tearing up just because I wrote "before the fire."

It's no wonder why I've been moody. I've been reliving sad memories from the past.

Two weeks before I was to leave for my first year of college, my childhood home caught fire with my mother and I inside...and the plumber who was working in our furnace room. I remember him yelling "FIRE!"

All of us got out safely. The fire departments came. We watched our home go up in flames. Smoke billowing. My mom dropped to her knees in our neighbor's front yard when the Red Cross arrived.

Fast forward to the day I was allowed to go inside to gather my belongings. I can't really remember walking through the house. I remember standing at the entrance of my bedroom.

The fan dangled from what was left of the ceiling. Everything was damaged from smoke and water. I attempted to gather a little bit of stuffing from my pillow that came from the original pillow my grandmother gave me. I couldn't.

There was a book of CDs I recovered, but the stack of cases next to it was melted together. I looked toward my closet and was excited to see my favorite pair of jeans. I was soon disappointed to find out that the hanger was melted to them.

I was able to grab clothes that were in my dresser drawers, mostly t-shirts and pajamas. Everything else was left for the clean-up crew.

I stayed at my brother's house until I left for college. Luckily, most of my college supplies were stored in a back room and untouched by the fire. Friends and family helped me start a new wardrobe. Moving to Toledo was easy without a place to call home.

As the months passed, the house was rebuilt and boxes of our belongings were returned to us. I remember smelling the fire all over again when I went through my stuff.
