It seems there is no shortage of marketing strategies aimed at improving the performance of any organization. UK police: Jimmy Savile is suspect in 199 crimes

LONDON (AP) ? The late BBC entertainer Jimmy Savile is a suspect in 199 crimes recorded so far, including dozens of cases of rape, British police said Wednesday. They described the level of sexual abuse allegations against Savile as "unprecedented in the U.K."

The accusations against Savile, who died last year at age 84, grew after five women said during a TV program broadcast in October that they had been sexually abused by the presenter. The claims triggered a scandal that rocked the BBC, which has been accused of failing to report allegations against Savile while making shows praising him.

Police said they are putting together a report on Savile's activities based on the alleged victims' evidence, expected to be published early next year. On Wednesday, police published an update on the probe with the following details:

?199 crimes have been recorded in 17 police force jurisdictions in which Savile is a suspect.

?31 rape allegations have been recorded against the disgraced children's television presenter.

?450 people have come forward with information relating to Savile, mainly alleging sexual abuse.

?Some 140 other people also have reported information relating to Savile acting with others, or others acting alone.

Most of those people who came forward were women who alleged sexual abuse when they were young, police said.

A broader police investigation into sex abuse spurred by the claims against Savile has so far detained seven suspects for questioning. They included former pop star Gary Glitter, 68, whose real name is Paul Gadd, and well-known publicist Max Clifford.

No criminal charges have been filed.

The BBC has also announced several investigations into the abuse claims and the network's polices during Savile's career.

Apple and Microsoft reportedly fighting over revenue sharing, SkyDrive app caught in the crossfire

Apple and Microsoft are reportedly wrestling over Apple?s 30% cut of items sold in the App Store, specifically SkyDrive subscription revenue for the SkyDrive app. The SkyDrive app was intended to not only allow users to view and open their files, but to upgrade their storage though the iOS app. According to the App Store rules, however, Apple's entitled to a 30% cut of any in-app purchases. According to Alex Wilhelm of The Next Web, however, it's gotten even more complicated:

Microsoft has persisted in trying to work out a compromise with Apple, but has thus far failed to come to an agreement. The company offered to remove all subscription options from its application, leaving it a non-revenue generating experience on iOS. The offer was rebuffed.

At issue could be one thing: the SkyDrive app has a ?Sign Up? button that takes the user to a web page where they can purchase a subscription. This is against Apple?s policies, and there have been problems with apps doing this before. When Apple first implemented these rules, there was an issue with the Kindle app linking back to Amazon so that people could purchase books outside of Apple?s system. Apple doesn?t have a problem if your content comes from outside of its ecosystem, you just can?t directly link to said content in any fashion, which is what Microsoft is doing with the SkyDrive app.

This is also a issue for developers who integrate with SkyDrive. If their apps link to the SkyDrive sign-up, then their future updates will also be rejected, leaving their users out in the cold.

Apple's policy feels like it was originally designed to stop dishonest developers from abusing Apple's support of free apps by switching all payments to post-purchase up-sells. However, as time goes on its increasingly obvious that larger vendors like Microsoft, Amazon, and others should fall into a different category.

Hopefully for SkyDrive users, Apple and Microsoft figure this out.

US actress Parker hails EU as example for America

OSLO, Norway (AP) ? American actress Sarah Jessica Parker says this year's Nobel Peace Prize winner, the European Union, could serve as an example for the United States.

Parker praised the EU's role in pacifying Europe and uniting different cultures, noting that in the U.S., recent elections brought divisions to the surface.

Parker says although it "might be a controversial" decision to award the EU as it struggles with a financial crisis, the 27-nation bloc embodies ideals and is "a terrific blueprint for us."

Parker spoke to The Associated Press in Oslo before the Nobel Concert later Tuesday, which she will host with Scottish actor Gerard Butler.

The evening's artists include U.S. singer Jennifer Hudson, Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, American R&B artist Ne-Yo and British soul singer Seal.

Barnes & Noble brings Nook Video to the UK, first to offer UltraViolet in the old country

Barnes & Noble have kept its "early December" promise to bring the Nook Video service to the UK. The company has signed deals with heavy-hitters like the BBC, HBO and Warner Bros., so Game of Thrones and The Dark Knight Rises are ready and gagging to be seen. It's also the first to arrive in Blighty with full-fat UltraViolet access, enabling you to watch your (compatible) purchased DVDs and Blu-Rays without all of that fiddly ripping and re-encoding. If you haven't snapped up one of the company's Nook HD tablets yet, you'd better get writing that letter to Santa.

The Lions seemed to turn a corner on the franchise?s futility last season with a 10-6 record and the first playoff berth for the team in 12 years.

But after clawing their way to 4-4 after a slow start, the Lions are floundering with four-straight losses, including the last three at home after leading with two minutes left in the fourth quarter. Detroit is the first team to do that since at least 1983, according to STATS LLC.

Now the Lions head to Green Bay for a Sunday Night Football showdown with their NFC North rivals. The Lions haven?t won at Lambeau Field since 1991. The Packers? 21-game home winning streak against Detroit is the longest in the league.

"It's one of those things, we've been able to squeak out some victories," Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said this week. "It hasn't all been pretty, I know that. ... It's always really competitive games and, for whatever reason, we've come out on the right side of the last 20 or so."

The Packers (8-4) have won six of their last seven games to grab the division lead from the Bears, whom Green Bay beat earlier in Week 2 to hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.

One edge the Lions seem to have on the Packers this time around is overall team health. Detroit should get safety Louis Delmas and tackle Corey Williams back on defense. Left tackle Jeff Backus returned last week.

The Packers are without receiver Jordy Nelson, linebacker Clay Matthews, cornerback Charles Woodson, running back James Starks and ends C.J. Wilson and Mike Neal. Tackle T.J. Lang is questionable.

A look at the keys to the game for each team:

Lions

Find a way to cover: The Packers are really banged up on the offensive line where Lang, who moved from left guard to right tackle after Bryan Bulaga was put on injured reserve, is questionable to play. That would mean rookie Don Barclay would have to start at right tackle. Left guard Evan Dietrich-Smith is a maximum effort guy, but he and the rest of the interior line are bound to have problems against Lions tackles Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley and Corey Williams. Suh has been in the headlines recently for some of his antics, but there?s no denying that he has played the best and most consistent football of his career. Fairley has also come on of late. And having Williams to spell either starter will provide additional help. But the Lions? inside prowess is only good if Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers hangs onto the ball around three seconds. He?ll only do that if Lions cornerbacks Chris Houston, Jacob Lacey and nickel back Drayton Florence show better than they did in last week?s loss to the Colts.

Have a plan other than Calvin: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson has been just about unstoppable this season because of his size/speed combination. He only needs 421 yards to break Jerry Rice?s single-season record of 1,848 yards set in 1995. With Ryan Broyles and Titus Young on injured reserve, the Lions are down to former Jaguar Mike Thomas and Brian Robiskie, and Kris Durham from the practice squad. Figure the Packers to double- and triple-team Johnson. That means tight ends Brandon Pettigrew and Tony Scheffler are going to have carry more of the load if the Lions are going to move the ball.

Play smart and disciplined: This seems as big a chore as any for Jim Schwartz?s Lions. They just seem to be getting in their own way closing out games, whether it?s the coach himself throwing a challenge flag when he isn?t allowed to, Matthew Stafford getting sacked in field-goal range or players are getting inopportune penalty flags. The Lions have talent. They?ve been close in most of their losses. They just have to figure out a way to execute better down the stretch. They?ll never win at Lambeau Field making dumb mistakes.

Packers

Shut down Johnson: Doesn?t matter how many players you need to do it, but the Packers can?t let Calvin Johnson beat them up again. He had five catches for 143 yards in the last meeting to help give Johnson 38 receptions for 661 yards in November. If you take away Johnson from the Lions, who have no running game, and make Stafford beat you with only a pair of tight ends, Rodgers stands a very good chance of winning the game without much problem. The Packers should probably start with promising rookie Casey Hayward and a safety over the top and adjust from there. Tramon Williams has been too boom or bust for the Johnson assignment this time around.

Protect Rodgers: Suh, Fairley and Company will be hunting down Rodgers as many times as possible. With Alex Green the only viable running back left ? former Packer Ryan Grant has returned but may not be ready for much game action ? Rodgers is going to have to move the team behind a banged up offensive line. There should be plenty of opportunities for Rodgers to throw against a porous Lions secondary, but he needs the time to do it. Whoever starts at right tackle, be it Lang or Barclay, has to hold their own against end Cliff Avril (four sacks since Nov. 18). Rodgers also has to play to his surroundings. He can?t hold the ball behind a shaky line. Rodgers needs to mix it up, keep plays alive with his feet, but should not linger in the pocket.

Find pressure somewhere: The Packers? pass rush resides with Matthews, Wilson and Nick Perry on the injured list, but they?re going to have to do a better job against Stafford, who has averaged 340 yards the past three weeks. Guys like Erik Walden, Dezman Moses, Frank Zombo and Vic So?oto will need to affect Stafford or else he?ll carve up the Packers secondary even if he doesn?t have many good downfield options at this point. Stafford?s passes really start to get errant the more pressure he?s under. Packers need to find that pressure somewhere or else it will be a shootout.
