NBA Eastern Conference: Team previews

1:53 p.m. CST, December 24, 2011

(Predicted order of finish)58-24 in 2010-11 2nd in East

Lost in NBA Finals

Coming: Shane Battier, Eddy Curry, Norris Cole

Going: Mike Bibby, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Jamaal Magloire

Team chemistry shouldn't be sore subject it was in year one of Big Three. Feeling-out process is over for LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, meaning it's watch-out time for rest of Eastern Conference. Battier will provide defensive help and alleviate pressure on James on both ends of court.

62-20 in 2010-11

1st in East

Lost in East finals

Coming: Richard Hamilton

Going: Kurt Thomas, Rasual Butler

Fussy Bulls fans won't have much to gripe about now that Hamilton's arrival completes one of NBA's top backcourts. Plus, having healthy Carlos Boozer is like adding another player after forward often was sidelined by injuries last year. Topping season in which they won 62 games and had league MVP in Derrick Rose will be hard, but Bulls may be able to do it.

42-40 in 2010-11

6th in East

Lost in first round

Coming: Tyson Chandler, Mike Bibby, Baron Davis, Iman Shumpert

Going: Chauncey Billups, Derrick Brown, Anthony Carter, Roger Mason Jr.

Not even sad sack owner James Dolan can screw this up. Adding Chandler and Bibby to core of Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire gives Knicks formidable nucleus that could be even deeper if Davis is able to return from ailing back. Games at Madison Square Garden could be tough ticket for first time in years.
